Behind the Luxury Series: Meet Alex Hobbs, Project Manager – Kindred Custom Homes

Discovering His Calling

For Alex, construction is the convergence of technical precision and creative problem-solving. His path to Kindred was unconventional, beginning in the analytical worlds of IT and engineering before he discovered his true passion in construction carpentry. After relocating from Ottawa to Vancouver in 2012, a pivotal encounter with Dick, Kindred’s founder, set him on a course in construction. Encouraged to pursue formal training at BCIT, Alex embraced the opportunity to build expertise from the ground up.

Starting as a carpenter, Alex developed the hands-on skills that form the foundation of every great project manager. When an injury redirected his trajectory, he transitioned into project coordination—a shift that revealed his natural aptitude for orchestrating complex builds. His time with Kindred’s Pre-Construction team as a Project Coordinator sharpened his ability to anticipate challenges, align stakeholders, and translate ambitious designs into executable plans. That experience became the springboard for his current role as a Project Manager, where he has already guided the planning of three custom homes.

Thriving in Complexity

What drives Alex is the dynamic, fast-paced nature of luxury homebuilding and the intricate problem-solving each project demands. He understands that every custom home presents unique challenges—logistical puzzles, design complexities, and the delicate balance between client vision and structural reality. For Alex, these challenges aren’t obstacles; they’re opportunities to innovate and deliver excellence.

Beyond technical skill, Alex values the cultural foundation that makes Kindred distinctive. The company’s “Team Built” philosophy resonates deeply with him. That supportive culture enables him to bring his whole self to every project, knowing he’s backed by a team that values collaboration and mutual respect.

Building Dreams, One Home at a Time

When Alex reflects on Kindred’s mission—”We build dream homes”—he sees it as a commitment to helping clients transform their aspirations into a tangible reality. He approaches each project with the understanding that a custom luxury home is both a significant investment and a deeply personal expression of identity. By guiding clients through the complexities with clarity and care, Alex ensures the journey is as rewarding as the destination.

Outside of work, Alex channels that same creative energy into his own projects. Whether he’s building a bar-top arcade or modifying his grill, he brings the same meticulous attention to detail and innovative spirit that defines his professional work. Above all, he’s a devoted family man, grounded in the belief that the best homes—whether for clients or his own family—are built on a foundation of care, craftsmanship, and connection.
